Society meetings moved to Harp House, Helmore Road, Barking from the Salvation Army Hall.

2007 May

Joy Lines, former membership secretary and committee member since 1992, elected a vice-president.

2008 January

Death of Norman Gunby, a vice-president, aged 93.

2008 December

Society Website launched www.barkinghistory.co.uk

2009 May

Patrick Manley, former Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, elected vice-chairman.

2009 September

Launch of the 75th anniversary season with a talk by Bill George on the history of the Society in the presence of the Mayor, Councillor Charles Fairbrass. The launch of the Bert Lockwood collection of local history reference materials also took place. Bert's widow Dorothy and other members of the family attended. Members of Harold Wand's family were also present.

2009 November

Mark Watson, Heritage Education Officer, Barking &
Dagenham Heritage Service, delivered the 75th
anniversary lecture “Barking in the 1930s”

2009 December

Death of Douglas Waters, a vice-president of the Society. He was a former mayor of Barking and Dagenham.

Death of Vice-President Miss Joan Harrison, aged 93

Death of Vice-President Mrs. Mary Blake, aged 74

2012 February

Garry Wykes, retired Warden of the Crown Jewels, gave a talk on 6th February to the Society entitled Treasures of the Tower of London to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee

2014 September

Week long exhibition Our Past/Your Past at Valence House Museum to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Society (in conjunction with the Chadwell Heath Historical Society celebrating its 20th anniversary). The exhibition was officially opened by Barking's President, Bill George. 171 people visited the event.

2014 September

Launch of our 80th anniversary season with a talk by Bill George on Frank Tingey's drawings. Bill's booklet of the same title was also launched. The guests included Elizabeth Kangethe, the Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, members of the Tingey family, Dorothy Lockwood, Michael Wand and Philip Petchey. Buffet and drinks followed.

2014 October

Unveiling of the Becontree Mural at Valence. In his speech artist Chad McCail praised society members for the help they gave while the design was under discussion.

2014 November

80th anniversary talk The Glenny family of Barking delivered by Keith Glenny at Harp House, Barking. There was also a book signing by Sylvia Kent (Barking and Dagenham from old photographs).

2014 November

Bill George, President and John Blake, Chairman, jointly received an English Heritage partner award plaque from Elizabeth Kangethe, Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, in recognition of the society's contribution to the Heritage Schools Programme at the Heritage Schools Showcase at the Broadway Theatre, Barking. John Blake was interviewed and filmed by the English Heritage film crew prior to the event.
