DECEMBER 2013 NOTICES

SOCIETY NEWS

The December coach trip to Rochester is now full. Please let us have your suggestions for trips next year.

There is no January meeting - our next talk is on Monday 3rd February when Pat and Barbara Elliott give a talk entitled One man went to mow: a Victorian farmer in Barking.

Eric Feasey recently supplied Bill George with an article about the Barking Boiler Explosion of 1899; no sooner had it appeared on our website when I received an email from the great-granddaughter of James Thornton, one of the men killed in that terrible  accident. I was able to tell her about the small commemorative plate displayed in Valence House naming the dead.

Please join us for a mince pie and glass of wine after the talk this evening.
