The weather was very kind to us for the coach trip to Thriplow last month and there was more than enough to keep us busy all day. A new addition was the foods of the world area, which proved a great attraction. Many thanks to Richard for organising the  trip and to Alan Johnson for his help on the day.

There are still a few seats left for Tiptree Jam Museum and Ingatestone Hall on 7th June and Bletchley Park on 6th  September. Please telephone Richard Chapman on 01708 867500 for further information or to book.

We will at the Chadwell Heath History Fair next Saturday (see details below) – please come along to this very successful event!


Our next meeting is the AGM on Monday 11th May and this will be followed an illustrated talk History of the Stowe Maries Aerodrome, Essex, by Roger  Smith.

Saturday 18th April  Fifth Chadwell Heath History Fair. Hosted by the Chadwell Heath Historical Society. Local history societies, heritage services,  Newham Bookshop, Barking Photographic Society and much more. 10am – 4pm St. Chad’s Church Hall, St. Chad’s Road, Chadwell Heath.

Sunday 19th April  Havering Heritage Day at the Old Chapel, St. Mary’s Lane, Upminster, RM14 2QR. 2pm – 5pm.

Thursday 7th May Valence House collections masterclass with Linda Rhodes: 70th  anniversary of VE-Day with a viewing of some Home Front archives from World War II. 2pm. Valence House Museum. Becontree Avenue, Dagenham.  Further details telephone 020 8227 2034.

Saturday 9th May Talk: Scandals at sea (sad tales- Barking), by Linda Rhodes.  East of London Family History Barking branch. 2pm at  St. Elisabeth Church Hall, Wood Lane, Dagenham, Visitors welcome.

Monday 11th May Talk: Dreams of the ideal: the Corporation of London’s development at Ilford,  by Stephen Smith. 7.30 – 9.30pm. Ilford Historical Society. 7.30pm  at the Ilford Hospital Chapel, The Broadway, Ilford Hill, Ilford, IG1 2AT. Non-members £2.
