Congratulations to Margaret Tester on a reaching a landmark birthday recently (I still cannot believe it!!!!!).

Society member Joy Harris featured in the Barking and Dagenham Post on 6th January talking about her 28-year battle with fibromyalgia; Joy runs a support group to help fellow sufferers.

There are seats left for the coach trip to Duxford on Sunday 20th March. Coach £10 and entrance £12.25. Booking sheet is available on the information desk or phone Richard on  01708 867500

Sad to report that Valence House lost two of its staunchest supporters recently with the deaths of Alderman Fred Jones and Michael Humphrey.

Valence House has a new website which now includes a searchable database of the 30,000+ materials stored in both the museum and Local Studies Centre. Visit

Our next meeting is on Monday 7th March when some of our members will share memories of their working lives.
