Bennet Memorial
Memorial to captain John Bennet Senior of Poole, Dorset who died 1707, his wife Mary Bennet who died 1711 and their son Captain John Bennet Junior who died 1717. The marble bust of a sea captain of the early eighteenth century originally carried a sword in the right hand. On each side the stem and stern of a contemporary warship was carved in fine detail showing the rigging in authentic detail, the panels below depict globes and other navigational aids of the period of Queen Anne whilst the crest above includes contemporary naval weapons. This monument originally blocked the window on the right; it was moved to one side and the window reconstructed at the cost of the Hewett family who also occupied their business in great waters.
