1977 March

Kenneth Glenny, 4th president died.

1978

Gwen Shields, a librarian, became chairman.

1982 September

Titanic survivor Eva Hart gave a talk to the Society.

1983

AGM agreed to re-introduce “and district” into the Society’s title.

1984 November

November Society’s Golden Jubilee. A taped message was received from 100 year old Colonel Loftus in Zimbabwe and was played at an anniversary celebration at Barking Central
Library on 7th November 1984.

1984 November

The Sources of British History exhibition opened by the Mayor, Councillor Charles Fairbrass at Barking Central Library to mark the Society's Golden Jubilee
