MONTHLY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2015

SOCIETY NEWS

Along with other members of the society I attended the 70 th anniversary service (15th  January) at the Ripple Hall to commemorate the destruction of St Paul’s Church in 1945. It was a very moving service especially when the Bishop of Barking slowly read out the names of the people who died in the tragedy. The Marquess of Salisbury  was also present. The Society provided photographs and undertook research in connection with the anniversary.

We have been given feedback on the meeting between Heritage Lottery Fund officials and the council regarding the East Street regeneration project. The report included the following: The community interest and enthusiasm from the Local History Society, Church and College was clearly evident and the preparations and work you yourself and your team have done was notable. Please do pass on my thanks and those of the HLF team to those  who attended the event and who spoke. We really appreciated their input.
Bill George led our team for this project meeting and we are indebted to him (as ever!) for his efforts.

We have three new coach trips booked; Thriplow Daffodil Weekend on Sunday 22nd March, Tiptree Jam Museum  and Ingatestone Hall on 7th June and Bletchley Park on 6th September – please see Richard Chapman for  further information.

Programme change: our next meeting is on Monday 2nd March when Georgina Green will deliver a talk Plants in the past. The talk by Linda Rhodes on the  Ghosts and graves of Barking and Dagenham will now take place on Monday 1st June.
