Norah Dane, a teacher, was elected chairman. She was the daughter of the first Mayor of Ilford, Alderman F.H. Dane. |

Fire destroyed Barking Central Library in Ripple Road. The Society had met there since World War II. Abbey Hall, Axe Street, provided a temporary meeting place. |
1970 |
Norah Dane resigned as chairman. |

Madge Carter elected chairman. |

Opening of new central library – Society began to meet in its lecture theatre. |
