SOCIETY NEWS

The Barking and Dagenham CVS at Ripple Hall are very keen to hear from anyone who attended St. Paul’s Church in Ripple Road, Barking, which was destroyed by enemy action  on 14th January 1945. They are planning a 70th anniversary ceremony and hope to find either members of congregation  or their descendants. Please let me know if you have any information, photographs, etc.

Many members of the society attended the launch of the new Becontree Mural at Valence House Museum on Saturday 25th October. Artist Chad McCail kindly paid tribute to  our society in a speech to the assembled guests including Darren Rodwell, Leader of Barking and Dagenham Council.

On 21st October we visited Golders Hill Park followed by a guided tour of Kenwood House – despite being on the receiving end of the hurricane (we were literally  blown across the park!) it was a great success. Thanks to Sylvia Daly for organising this trip.

Fourteen members of the society enjoyed a visit to the Granary Building and Ice House Quarter in Barking on 16 th October, and a guided tour was provided by Steve Drury  of the company Rooff. View Bill George’s excellent photographs of the visit on our website.

The Society has received a very warm letter from the family of Frank Tingey expressing their thanks for the welcome they received at the September meeting and, above all, the booklet of Frank’s drawings produced by Bill George. They  have kindly made a substantial donation to the society.

Our next meeting is on Monday 1 st December when there will be a quiz. Mince pies and nibbles will be supplied and coffee and tea will be on sale during the break.  Otherwise,  bring your own drinks!
