Went to take measurements & directions for funeral which is to take place next Tuesday at 3 o’clock"

Friday 24th June 1864; "Frank…went with me yesterday to Cranbrook & to Mr. Bertie’s at the latter place he waited outside in the rain for 2 hours but fortunately caught  no cold. I went to the Churchyard to see about Vault for Mrs. Davis, went on to Mr. Bertie’s house. Frank went with me to the Cemetery: Mr. Davis still very ill. We took Coffin home to Cranbrook"

Thursday 28th July 1864; "Went to Gaol & Cemetery in the morning; paid Mr. S. & to Romford in the afternoon. Father made some important discoveries as regards the landed  estates of Mrs. Hunsdon; who gives up all when married again: which marriage was solemnised at St. George’s Hanover Square on the 30 th June 1861 between Elizabeth Eustace Hunsdon  & Henri Cornu; the witnesses to the marriage were Mr. & Mrs. Stephens of Duke of Grosvenor Square."

Friday 29th July 1864; "Father went with Aunt Bessy to deliver the tenants of Mr.s Hunsdon notice not to pay her any more rents on account of her being married to Monsieur Cornu;  there were 20 or more notices all drawn up by M. Griffin"

Monday 1st August 1864; "Old Ladt Hunsdon’s alias Cornu’s day to go to receive her rents from the various places; but she will be wonderfully taken in. James & Harry  Brown went with me to Romford & Greenhill Grove"
Thursday 4th August 1864; "Mr. Griffin saw Father & he told him that he had had a letter from Mrs. Cornu’s Solicitor requesting a Copy of the will as ahe had lost hers & they thought she had made a mistake & married (but that’s all stuff)"

Monday 5th September 1864; "Went to Romford in the morning took E. Brown with me; & G. Grove & the Cemetery in the afternoon & took J. Brown with me…Bust about a packing case  for a removal in the evening… Had authority from Madam Cornu’s Solicitor to begin collecting the rents, & Father arranged with Harry about collecting, & he is going to introduce HWA to the tenants tomorrow afternoon"

Friday 18th November 1864; "Went to Dagenham, to see houses of late belonging to Mrs. Hunsdon (now Madame Cornu). I went to ascertain & see about a well & repairs to roof at 7 Cottages  at do for the parties interested"

Tuesday 19th April 1864; "Father and I went for a delightful drive to Chigwell to see the ‘plots of land’ for Sale on the common in close approximation to  the Bald Hind & home round Woodford; enjoyed it amazingly"

Wednesday 20th April 1864; "Father went to the Sale of Land at Chigwell at the White Hart Romford & bought Lot 5 & gave £17.3.0 for the trees thereon & for the Lot he gave £270"

Thursday 21st April 1864; "Father, Uncle Henry, Aunt Maria; & Kate went to see his new piece of ground at Chigwell"

Tuesday 26th April 1864; "Sold the piece of land bought at Chigwell Row to Messrs Ind Coope at £50 profit had the balance of land at Chadwell paid him by Mr. Durroch viz £290.  Mrs. Higgs paid me £100 for small cottage"

Thursday 28th April 1864; "Went to Stratford to pay bills & the Cemetery in the afternoon; Father went to see the land for sale per Messrs Debenham Pewson near Bromley in Kent at  a place called Shortlands"

Wednesday 4th May 1864; "Father went to Romford & bought at Sale (by Mr. Champness) 4 nice Cottages & 1 plot of land containing 1acre 1.roods 1rod. he gave £440 for the Cottages  & £360 for the Ground (in all £800)"

Tuesday 21st June 1864; "Father went to London to pay for Cottages at Romford"

Friday 8th July 1864; "Father went to settle for piece of land at Romford he paid Mr. Champness balance of £288"

Wednesday 27th 1864; "Father sold ¼ of the land at Romford to Mr. Snow"

Thursday 4th August 1864; "Father went to a Sale by Daniel Sons & Oaklley at Guildhall Coffee Rooms of the Estate of Nelson’s &c at Chadwell Heath, he went with the intention  of buying if the lots went reasonable, butb they sold very dear, consequently he was no purchaser, Philpott bought a £1600 lot & S. Pedley Esq. bought several lots; the house of Nelson was bought in. I went with Harry to measure 3 fields at Perkins  Aldborough Hatch; we finished two, & began a third but it got too dark to finish it, so we returned home. I drove our pony.
