Tomorrow, April 3rd, we are having a promotional table on the ground floor of the Barking Learning Centre in the Town Square 10am – 3pm.
We had a full coach for the trip to Thriplow on the 18th March. Despite a chill in the air, it was a very enjoyable occasion; many thanks to Richard Chapman for organising it.
The coach trips for The Forties Family Day at Bletchley Park (of Enigma machine fame) on Sunday 27 th May, Dickens World at Chatham Maritime on Sunday 16 th September 2012 and Bury St, Edmunds Christmas Fayre on Sunday 25 th November 2012 are heavily booked – we have about ten seats left on each one. Pat Manley is doing a guided Blackfriars (leisurely) walk on Friday 20 th April. Meet at Blackfriars underground station 7pm (9pm finish). Booking form is in on the information table.
Our next meeting is Monday 14 th May when the AGM takes place and will be followed by a Jubilee quiz and light buffet.

Valentine’s Mansion in Valentine’s Park, Ilford is holding its annual May Fair on Saturday 19 th May 11am – 4pm.

Chlorofrom and Crime is the title of a talk by Linda Stratmann to be given to the Friends of Valence House at the Valence House Visitors Centre at 2pm on Tuesday 13th March. Visitors welcome £1.50. Telephone 01708 769946 for further details.

Havering Library Service is hosting a talk on the Romford Workhouse at Romford Central Library, St. Edwards Way on Thursday 26th April at 1pm. £2.50 library members, £3.00 non-
Saturday 5th May is World War II Day at Eastbury Manor House, Eastbury Square, Barking. There will be displays of memorabilia and guns. The Dagenham Girl Pipers and Royal British Legion will be appearing at 2pm.
The Second Chadwell Heath History Fair takes place on Saturday 14th April at the Wangey Chapel, Wangey Road, Chadwell Heath 10am – 4pm. Admission free. We will be having a stall at this event.
The 50+Show takes place at Olympia 12th – 14th July. The show covers all aspects of life for the over fifties including travel, finance, leisure, arts, health, insurance, etc. If you would like tickets please give me your details.
The Local Studies Centre at Valence House Museum has produced a series of collection guides – they cover the topics such Thames and fishing, sport, local newspapers and English counties. Copies are available in the centre.
