President’s Opening Remarks

A changing port in a changing world.  London’s harbours from the 1st to the 18th century.  Gustav Milne, Director of the Thames Discovery Programme.

Re-invention and Change: the Port of London from 1790-1938. Chris Ellmers, Founding Director, Museum in Docklands.

Presentation of Publications Awards

Lunch

Local history and the environmental history of the Thames 1960-2010
. Vanessa Taylor, Research Fellow, Greenwich Maritime Institute.

‘Primus Omnium’, the world’s first modern police force. Robert Jeffries, Curator, Thames Police Museum.

Tea and biscuits (included in ticket price)

The Thames  as a provider of drinking water.
Mark Jenner, University of York.

‘The Thames Beautiful’- the artist’s perspective. Mireille Galinou, Arts and Museums Consultant, former Curator of Paintings, Prints and Drawings at the Museum of London.
The local history displays by societies will be on show from 10am before the conference starts, in the Clore Education Centre, where they can be seen throughout the day, particularly during the lunch period and the afternoon break.

Those Societies that want  a free exhibition table should contact, Local History Conference Display, 9 Umfreville Road, London, N4 1RY or  , before the 1st November, with the name of society and a contact address, email or telephone number.

Lunch times refreshments may be purchased from the Museum’s restaurant, café and the Clore Education Centre lunch space, beside the local history displays, will be available for people to consume their own food and drink. Afternoon tea with  biscuits will be provided in the Clore Education Centre and is included in the ticket price.

Tickets available from 1st September: £12 before 31st October, or £15 from 1 November. Tickets can be obtained from  Eleanor Stanier using the form below, or via the LAMAS website (. using PayPal).

Please note:
There is only space for about 20 displays and tables will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
If you have to cancel your booking, please let me know as soon as possible.
The tables will have no wall space available, so please bring your own free-standing display boards, if required.
Supervisors may set up displays in the Hall from 09.30 on the day.
The exhibition will be open to the public at 10.00.
ALL TABLES TO BE CLEARED BY 5.00 pm, PLEASE.
Supervisors need a valid ticket to sit in the Hall for the Conference.


Confirmation
Unless you hear to the contrary one table will be allocated to you. If you apply after all the places have been allocated you will be contacted to see if you want to be put on a waiting list and given a place should someone pull out.
