Alfred Russel Wallace, OM, FRS, (1823-1913)
Wallace was a man of many talents - an explorer, collector, naturalist, geographer, anthropologist and political commentator. Most famously, he had the revolutionary idea of evolution by natural selection at the same time as Charles Darwin, but entirely independently. For a short time he lived in Barking.
