|1965||Norah Dane, a teacher, was elected chairman.
She was the daughter of the first Mayor of Ilford,
Alderman F.H. Dane.
|1967||Fire destroyed Barking Central Library in
Ripple Road. The Society had met there since
World War II. Abbey Hall, Axe Street,
provided a temporary meeting place.
|1970||Norah Dane resigned as chairman.|
|1971||Madge Carter elected chairman.|
|1974 October||Opening of new central library – Society
began to meet in its lecture theatre.
