1965 Norah Dane, a teacher, was elected chairman.
She was the daughter of the first Mayor of Ilford,
Alderman F.H. Dane.
1967 Fire destroyed Barking Central Library in
Ripple Road. The Society had met there since
World War II. Abbey Hall, Axe Street,
provided a temporary meeting place.
1970 Norah Dane resigned as chairman.
1971 Madge Carter elected chairman.
1974 October Opening of new central library Society
began to meet in its lecture theatre.
